Camino 17 - Burgos, Burgos, Burgos to where?

We stayed in probably the most modern alburgue.  Yet I didn't sleep well.  Partly the elevator door next to the bunk.  Partly the twenty school kids that were out till ten.  I awoke around 5:00 a.m. Quiet, still, hot, humid, air.

05:45 my alarm went off.  I snoozed for ten.  Thankfully the kids were asleep. I woke Elizabeth and started preparing to go. We had breakfast downstairs.

On the way out of town we stopped by the Burgos cathedral and prayed morning prayer there.

This is a grand Gothic cathedral truly and impressive memorial to Christendom in Europe.
Initially we plan to go 11 km and then spend Saturday and Sunday there.

On the outskirts of Gothic and baroque Burgos were these apartments. Where would you rather live?

In Tardajos please stopped for lunch and hydration. We were blessed with more conversation and while stopped set a reservation for down the road.

We had to be there by 3: 00. So, up and over the top we went.  Yet before we climbed the mesa there was a small chapel tended by some kindly nuns.  A perfect place and time for noon prayer.

Off in the distance you can see Hornillos.  This is explicitly a pilgrim town. Lots of alburgues, few open beds. We are staying at the Meeting Point.

A note about God's grace and mercy.

After showering I planned to wash clothes. A thunderstorm with hail rolled in.  I decided to wash while it was still raining trusting that it would clear up. As I was ringing my clothes dry by hand the last drops were falling and the sun came out. I hung my clothes on the outside line and I expect they will be dry.

This is one of many small blessings along the way.

  1. Will you be able to spend Saturday and Sunday where you are at?

  2. How good, that your clothing was able to dry! (I am guessing, at least).
Oof, sorry that it wasn't a good and long sleep!
It is interesting to see and hear about the different places of worship along the way. And how lovely to have the different settings in which to worship, beseech, meditate.
